Body Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy / Body Psychotherapy

Becoming who you really are – meeting your essence

The bud

The bud stands for all things

Even the things that don’t flower,

For everything flowers, from within, of self blessing;

Though sometimes it is necessary

To reteach a thing its loveliness,

To put a hand on the brow

Of the flower

And retell it in words and in touch

It is lovely

Until it flowers again from within, of self blessing;

The way I work

I’m trained in Biodynamic Body Psychotherapy and Psychology (The Gerda Boyesen Method) and I’m registered with the UKCP. I’m also a qualified Yoga Teacher. I’ve been practising Buddhist meditation and mindfulness over 15 years. I’m a member of the Ridhwan School, where the emphasis lies on the combination of spiritual and psychological practices to unfold healing.

My approach in psychotherapy is body oriented and extends beyond the limitations of the mind. It is a psychodynamic approach that can bring you directly into contact with your essential self. It is here that we can find the truth of who we really are. It is from this core of our being that we can develop the qualities that will support our healing journey, like compassion towards ourselves and others, love of truth, willpower, strength, wisdom and a joyfull heart.

 Personal experience and nearly 20 years of professional practice have convinced me that the spoken language is often not enough. Early trauma, depression, anxiety and most personality disorders will profit from a body-mind approach, were we listen to the wisdom of the body, the voice of our true nature and the intuition of our heart in order to heal. The work is process oriented, gentle and powerful at the same time and the client is always in control of what is happening.

The sessions

A session usually lasts 60 minutes. At the beginning we will talk about your reasons to ask for support and follow a verbal approach towards the subject. When trust is established and we mutually agree, we will then continue to explore how the issues that are showing in your life at this moment are embodied in your whole being: how a state of emotional or spiritual health is reflected in for example tensions in neck and shoulders, or a painful back, head aches, anxiety, insomnia or digestive problems – to name just a few.

 We will then work with deepening your awareness to listening to the messages from your essential self towards resolving and overcoming these issues. Whatever problem you are working with, childhood trauma, depression, relationship issues, anxiety or bereavement, you will find yourself able (not always without challenge though) to follow the messages from your essence and take the next step towards unfolding your wellbeing, because you are listening to your own wisdom. It is like peeling an onion, layer for layer will be taken off until you reach the flower bud.

Testimonials

"In a busy agency environment, balancing an ever-growing to do list with the need for creative thinking can be challenging. My team has found working with Ellena a hugely enjoyable and beneficial experience. Through her mindfulness for business sessions we have learnt practical ways to gain perspective on situations, which ultimately reduces stress and increases productivity. I have introduced mindful exercises into our daily routine and would highly recommend Ellena's workshops to other business owners looking for a fresh approach to team training." Lotte Mahon, MD, The Vine Marketing & PR

"Ellena is a friendly and approachable teacher who delivered a structured and accessible course. From knowing nothing about Mindfulness I now understand the ideas behind it and have been given the tools to start using it in my daily life.Since starting the course I feel that my effectiveness at work has increased – I find it easier to concentrate on prioritising tasks and then completing them – and family time has also benefitted by making a conscious effort to make the time I spend with them more enjoyable (tolerance levels have gone up, telling off down!). Life generally seems a bit calmer and more under control."   Phil Hills Consultancy Manager Cornwall Environmental Consultants (CEC) Ltd

"Ellena's teaching style is calm and perceptive."    Anne

"Mindfulness in the workplace has helped me to feel more calm and relaxed and has enabled me to be more aware and accepting of my thoughts and feelings. This has led to greater clarity of thinking and ultimately greater productivity."   Lynn, Penwith Volunteer Bureau

"The course has been very informative and helpful, the exercises are very enjoyable, and Ellena is an excellent teacher. "   Deborah
